The End of Winter

The End of Winter is my new performance essay-cum-monologue. Its premier season runs from 3 – 12 February 2022 at Sydney's SBW Stables Theatre.

It’s a Siren Theatre Company production and features the fabulous team that brought you Good With Maps. Performer Jane Phegan; Director Kate Gaul; Composer Nate Edmondson. And they're joined by Designer Soham Apte and Lighting Designer Becky Russell.

What’s happening to winter? In hot, bushfire-prone Australia our winters are becoming warmer and shorter. Will climate change eventually erase the season, leaving it to exist only in paintings, fairytales and historical accounts? The End of Winter is about loss and resilience. It’s about the places the writer goes in search of the cold weather she loves—places she can reach via public transport and her imagination.

It’s a story of winter written in the heat of summer.

Good With Maps

Good With Maps returns for four Sydney shows in June. Part of Siren Theatre Company’s fund-raising to take Good With Maps—together with Misterman and One Hander—to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Good With Maps is written by Noëlle Janaczewska, directed by Kate Gaul and performed by the wonderful Jane Phegan. Nate Edmondson’s sound design and composition for the production won a 2016 Sydney Theatre Award.

The shows are on at Belvoir Downstairs and all tickets are $45.

7-ON Playwrights was established in 2005 by Donna Abela, Catherine Zimdahl, Ned Manning, Noëlle Janaczewska, Vanessa Bates, Verity Laughton and Hilary Bell. Seven minds that don’t think alike but are simpatico in this—our belief in the transformative properties of our artform and its place in Australian culture. With over 200 plays between us, our work has been produced on stages across Australia. Internationally, we have been produced in Botswana, the US, the UK, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany, Denmark, France, Canada, Vietnam, Korea and Japan. These have included The Seven Needs (Griffin, 2007), Thus Spake Zarathustra (Wollongong University, 2008), Long Shadows (STC workshop, 2009), Platonic (Hothouse development, 2013), We Are The Ghosts Of The Future (Rocks Discovery Museum, 2015), and various works under the banner of Old Texts Revisited (ABC Radio, 2009), I Contain Multitudes (Novemberism Playwriting Festival, 2011) and No Nudity, Weapons or Naked Flames (MayDay! Playwrights’ Festival, 2013) which presented a selection of monologues from our anthology of the same name published by the Federation Press in 2012. We are also included in Currency Press’ anthology of short plays Short Circuit (2009).
